Today in honor of Women’s History Month, we salute Barbara Jordan, civil rights leader and the first black woman elected to the Texas State Senate post Reconstruction and first African American southerner elected to the US House of Representatives. Prior to becoming a state senator, Jordan was a political science professor at Tuskeegee Institute.
